The Wedding March is perhaps the most famous of all recessional songs in the English-speaking world. It was written by Felix Mendelssohn for Shakespeare’s well-known play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 1842. According to various sources, the first time it was played at a wedding was on June 2, 1847 in Great Britain; however, it was the wedding of Victoria, the Princess Royal and Prince Frederick William of Prussia on January 25, 1858 that sealed its place in wedding history. Before this time, music was usually not permitted during church ceremonies. This song sounds wonderful played on the church’s organ.
