iPod Wedding Music: An Easy and Affordable Alternative to Live Music

iPod wedding music is not only the most affordable wedding music option, but also the most satisfying, as you are able to pick the exact songs that you want to play at your ceremony. Using iPod wedding music requires careful planning, so here are several tips to ensure that your it goes off without a hitch!

First, create your playlist using iTunes, your CDs and your friends and family’s CDs. Remember that you need 20-30 minutes of prelude music, processional music for the wedding party and the bride, optional interlude music, recessional music, and postlude music. It is best to create your playlist a few months in advance to work out the kinks. Visit our guides to download popular sample songs!

If your wedding ceremony location does not have a sound system and speakers, you will need to rent the appropriate equipment. Contact your venue coordinator and ask for a recommendation on a good rental company in the area, preferably one that has worked at your location in the past.

Designate someone to control the iPod during your wedding ceremony. That person will need to press the play button to start the music, pause it during the ceremony, and start it again afterwards. It is recommended that you have a live person do this just in case there are timing problems with the music, someone is late, etc. Make sure that this person is tech savvy and will enjoy this task.

Rehearse with your music. Experiment with different volumes, ideally in your ceremony location during your rehearsal.

Finally, on the day of your wedding, make sure that your iPod is fully charged. It is a good idea to plug your iPod in while it is playing during the ceremony, just in case there is a problem with the battery. As an extra precaution, backup your songs onto CDs and bring a portable CD player on your wedding day. As with any new technology, iPods are subject to freezing up for no reason and turning off mid-play. Music playing from a boombox in the corner is better than no music at all. No one wants to walk down the aisle in silence.
